Pityrosporum folliculitis is a distinct form of folliculitis caused by pityrosporum yeasts, most commonly Pityrosporum orbiculare. It typically presents as follicular papules and pustules on the back, upper trunk, and shoulders.
This protocol applies to patients presenting with pityrosporum folliculitis localised to the back, upper trunk, and shoulders — a characteristic distribution of yeast-driven follicular inflammation caused by Pityrosporum orbiculare.
A topical antifungal is the central intervention for this presentation and is usually effective.
