Kerion and favus represent deep suppurative forms of folliculitis caused by dermatophytic infection of the scalp. These presentations are typically complicated by pain, fever, and regional lymphadenopathy, and carry a significant risk of scarring and permanent hair loss if not treated appropriately.
Given the depth and severity of infection in these cases, systemic oral antifungal therapy is the cornerstone of management. The complete evidence-based regimen — including agent selection and treatment duration — is available in the full protocol.
