Follicular thyroid cancer (FTC) is a differentiated thyroid malignancy that frequently presents on imaging as a nodule requiring histological clarification before definitive surgical planning. The operative approach at first presentation is a key step in the management pathway.
FTC is commonly identified in patients presenting with thyroid nodules initially characterised as follicular or adenomatous on cytology. The definitive diagnosis typically becomes clear only after surgical specimen analysis, which directly shapes the subsequent management strategy.
Most patients with FTC first undergo hemithyroidectomy with a diagnosis of follicular or adenomatous nodules.
