When is treatment indicated for focal nodular hyperplasia?

Focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) is a benign hepatic lesion most commonly identified incidentally. Deciding whether any intervention is appropriate requires careful clinical assessment, as the presence of the lesion does not in itself establish an indication for treatment.

Evidence consistently shows a poor correlation between FNH and attributable symptoms. Even when symptoms are present, this does not automatically establish that FNH is the underlying cause or that treatment is warranted.

For the majority of presentations, current evidence supports a conservative strategy over elective surgical intervention — though the complete structured regimen details the specific clinical conditions and criteria that govern this recommendation.
