First-Line Management of Fibrous Dysplasia of Bone
Clinical context
Fibrous dysplasia of bone is a skeletal disorder in which normal bone tissue is replaced by fibrous tissue, leading to structural weakness and deformity. Initial management focuses on optimising the conditions that influence bone quality and reducing modifiable risk factors before any further escalation of therapy.
Treatment approach — partial overview
First-line management centres on nutritional optimisation and lifestyle modification. Ensuring adequate dietary calcium intake and sufficient vitamin D status is a core component, alongside measures to reduce bone-harmful behaviours and support musculoskeletal function through targeted physical activity.
