Surgical Treatment for Essential Tremor Not Adequately Controlled by Medical Therapy
In selected patients with essential tremor, severe tremor persists despite medical management. For this group, a surgical approach targeting specific thalamic circuitry provides highly effective tremor reduction where medication has proved insufficient.
This protocol is for patients with severe essential tremor that is not adequately controlled by medical therapy and who are candidates for surgical intervention.
Surgical management involves a targeted intervention at a defined nucleus within the thalamus. The choice of procedure and its extent are determined by patient-specific factors outlined in the full protocol — the complete selection criteria and decision algorithm are not shown here.
