Este protocolo aborda la queratitis intersticial de causa bacteriana, específicamente en los casos en que se ha excluido una etiología sifilítica. El manejo combina terapia ocular local con tratamiento dirigido a la infección sistémica subyacente.
La queratitis intersticial de origen bacteriano — excluyendo la queratitis intersticial sifilítica — engloba un grupo distintivo de casos en los que la inflamación corneal es impulsada por un proceso bacteriano sistémico distinto de la sífilis. Tratar la infección sistémica subyacente es fundamental para lograr la resolución; la terapia local por sí sola es insuficiente.
Corticosteroids have a role in the local therapy of most forms of bacteria-mediated interstitial keratitis, but all will require specific systemic antibiotics to cure the underlying disease.
With the exception of syphilis, all of the other forms of bacteria-mediated interstitial keratitis benefit from the treatment of the underlying systemic infection.
