Treatment of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) with Uncomplicated Malaria

Patients with suspected or confirmed EVD who present with fever may concurrently have uncomplicated malaria. Managing both conditions simultaneously is essential — empiric antimalarial therapy is indicated for all febrile EVD patients.

Clinical Scenario

EVD with uncomplicated malaria is a recognised co-presentation requiring dedicated antimalarial management alongside EVD care. Empiric antimalarial therapy should be administered to all febrile patients with suspect and confirmed EVD, regardless of whether malaria has been laboratory-confirmed at the time of initiation.

Treatment target: malaria testing negative.

Treatment Approach

The protocol specifies an artemisinin-based combination antimalarial given as a complete fixed-duration course. Weight- and age-based dosing applies across all patient groups. The specific combination, dosing table, and stopping criteria are defined in the full structured protocol.
