Treatment of Dystonia in Primary Generalized or Primary Segmental Dystonia

This protocol applies to patients with primary generalized dystonia or primary segmental dystonia — forms of dystonia where the movement disorder arises without an identifiable structural or metabolic cause and affects either the whole body or a contiguous body region.

When medication or botulinum toxin (BoNT) therapy has not provided adequate improvement, a neurosurgical intervention targeting a specific deep brain structure may be indicated for eligible patients.

The full structured regimen — including patient selection criteria, procedural considerations, and monitoring guidance — is available via the protocol.
