Adductor-type laryngeal dystonia is a focal dystonia of the laryngeal muscles. Its management follows a specific, evidence-informed pathway distinct from other dystonia presentations.
The patient presents with adductor-type laryngeal dystonia. Current evidence supports a targeted intervention for this subtype, with a different evidence base applying to abductor-type laryngeal dystonia and muscular tension dysphonia.
The protocol for this scenario is centred on a focal, locally administered intervention. The full selection criteria, procedural details, and monitoring guidance are available in the complete protocol.

BoNT/A is probably effective for adductor-type laryngeal dystonia, but there is insufficient evidence to support efficacy in abductor-type laryngeal dystonia and in muscular tension dysphonia (good practice point).
