What Is the Treatment of Disseminated Nocardiosis When Standard Therapy Is Insufficient?

Disseminated nocardiosis is a severe systemic infection. In cases where standard medical therapy has not been adequate, an evidence-based structured protocol defines the next management step.

This protocol incorporates adjunctive interferon-gamma as part of the management approach. The complete regimen — including eligibility, sequencing, and clinical decision points — is detailed in the full structured protocol.

Dosages, full regimen, and protocol algorithm are available via the link below.

Adjunctive interferon-gamma has been successfully used in a limited number of patients with severe nocardiosis refractory to standard medical therapy, though this treatment remains unproven outside of patients with chronic granulomatous disease.
