Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) occurring in critically ill patients who are not actively bleeding represents a distinct clinical situation requiring a targeted management approach.
This protocol applies to the critically ill patient with DIC who has no active bleeding. In this population, the thromboembolic risk associated with DIC must be specifically addressed as part of overall management.
