Adjunctive Therapy for Type 1 Diabetes After Insulin Optimisation
In Type 1 Diabetes, insulin is the foundation of treatment. In selected individual cases, an adjunctive agent may be considered on top of insulin — but only once insulin therapy itself has been fully optimised.
This protocol applies to individual patients with Type 1 Diabetes (ICD-11 5A10) in whom adjunctive pharmacotherapy is being evaluated alongside an already-optimised insulin regimen. A general recommendation cannot be made for all patients; eligibility requires case-by-case assessment.
When insulin has been optimised and an adjunctive agent is still being considered, a specific set of drug classes may be used to augment insulin effect in selected individuals. Which agent is appropriate — and under what conditions — is detailed in the full protocol.

- It is not possible to make a general recommendation about their use, but they can be considered in individual cases (Table 6).
- However, before these drugs are prescribed, insulin therapy should be optimized.
