Treatment of Cytomegalovirus Gastroenteritis and Hepatitis in Mild CMV Colitis or Mild CMV Esophagitis

This protocol applies to patients with Cytomegalovirus (CMV) gastrointestinal disease presenting as mild CMV colitis or mild CMV esophagitis. Mild severity of disease is central to both patient selection and the choice of treatment strategy.

For patients with mild CMV colitis or mild CMV esophagitis, oral antiviral therapy is the recommended approach. The full regimen — specific agent, dosing, frequency, treatment duration, and monitoring — is available in the complete protocol.

Resolution of gastrointestinal signs and symptoms of CMV disease; therapy is continued until clinical resolution is achieved.
