Cutaneous Sarcoidosis with Non-Granulomatous or Cosmetically Unimportant Skin Lesions

Not all cutaneous sarcoidosis lesions require the same management approach. This protocol addresses the specific clinical scenario of non-granulomatous cutaneous sarcoidosis lesions, or granulomatous lesions that are cosmetically unimportant to the patient.

Sarcoidosis skin lesions are classified in two groups: sarcoidosis-specific (granulomatous) skin lesions and non-granulomatous lesions.

Non-granulomatous lesions are very common with acute initial presentations of sarcoidosis. These specific lesions almost never cause pain or itching and are not life-threatening.

For that reason, they should be treated only if they are of cosmetic importance to the patient.
