Cutaneous Lichen Amyloidosis When Laser Therapy Has Not Worked: What Comes Next?

Cutaneous lichen amyloidosis (LA) does not always respond adequately to laser-based treatment. When the initial laser therapy line fails to achieve its defined targets, a subsequent intervention is warranted to pursue lesion clearance.

Previous Treatment & Failure Condition

The preceding protocol uses laser therapy — encompassing fractional ablative CO2 laser, Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, and pulsed dye laser — aiming to achieve reduction in pigmentation, lesion thickness, itching, and amyloid deposits. Escalation to this next line is indicated when those goals are not adequately met.

Next-Line Approach (Partial Overview)

For refractory cases, the next protocol step draws on surgical intervention. The specific procedure selection and the clinical decision pathway are contained in the full regimen.

Treatment Goal

Clearance of lichen amyloidosis lesions.
