Treatment of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis with Old World Mucosal Involvement
Clinical Scenario
Old World mucosal leishmaniasis with active involvement of the nostrils, nasal septum, and oral mucosa. The extent and anatomical distribution of mucosal disease distinguishes this presentation and drives a specific treatment approach.
Why Local Treatment Is Not an Option
In mucosal leishmaniasis, the spread and localisation of disease makes local treatment impractical or ineffective. Systemic treatment is mandatory in these cases.
Treatment approach: Systemic therapy is required. The specific agent is selected based on drug availability and local costs — the full protocol details the options and the clinical criteria guiding that choice.
