Treatment of Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Caused by Leishmania braziliensis or Leishmania peruviana

This protocol applies to patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis in which the causative species is Leishmania braziliensis or Leishmania peruviana — the New World species associated with a distinct set of clinical considerations and treatment pathways.

Clinical scenario: Cutaneous leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania braziliensis or Leishmania peruviana. The applicable treatment approach depends on lesion characteristics, including number, size, location, and whether lymphatic spread is present.
The primary clinical goal is complete reepithelialization (healing) of the cutaneous lesion.
For qualifying lesions, local treatment options may be appropriate — including certain locally applied agents or physical interventions. The full protocol specifies which lesion characteristics determine eligibility for local versus systemic management, and outlines the available modalities in detail. Full regimen, selection criteria, and sequencing available in the structured protocol below.
