Costochondritis is an inflammation of the costochondral junctions that presents as anterior chest wall pain. This protocol covers the structured first-line management approach for this condition.
Initial management of costochondritis relies on conservative measures. In cases where conservative therapy is insufficient, physical therapy or targeted interventions directed at the affected costochondral joints may be considered — though these are rarely required.
Rarely is physical therapy or combined lidocaine (Xylocaine)/corticosteroid injections of the costochondral joints needed.
Simple analgesics; heat or ice; rarely, local anesthetic injections or steroid injections
