This protocol covers the management of a symptomatic endocervical cervical polyp presenting with intermenstrual vaginal bleeding in a patient with a normal Papanicolaou test result and no postcoital bleeding.
The patient has a symptomatic endocervical polyp causing intermenstrual bleeding. Papanicolaou test results are normal and there is no postcoital bleeding — a profile appropriate for an office-based procedural approach to resolve symptoms.
When a cervical polyp is symptomatic, cervical polypectomy is the recommended management. The protocol specifies a mechanical removal technique; the full procedural steps and approach to hemostasis are detailed in the complete protocol.
