Cerebral hemangioblastoma is a vascular tumour of the central nervous system. Both symptomatic lesions and, in appropriate clinical circumstances, asymptomatic lesions are managed operatively, with complete removal of the solid tumour component as the primary aim.
The cornerstone of first-line management is complete surgical resection of the solid tumour component. The protocol specifies a structured pre-operative pharmacological preparation for lesions at certain anatomical locations, as well as a peri-operative intervention that may be considered in larger solid tumours to minimise intraoperative bleeding risk.
The complete sequence — including pharmacological steps, timing, post-operative reduction schedule, and surgical specifics — is detailed in the full structured protocol below.
The primary endpoint is confirmation of complete resection of the solid tumour on postoperative contrast-enhanced MRI at the surgical site. Where applicable, resolution of haematological sequelae attributable to the tumour mass is an additional marker of successful treatment.
