Caustic Esophageal Injury Graded Zargar IIIA to IIIB on Endoscopy
Clinical Scenario
This protocol applies to patients with caustic esophageal injury confirmed on endoscopy and classified as Zargar grade IIIA or IIIB — findings that indicate transmural involvement and place the patient in a high-risk category requiring inpatient management.
Management Approach (Partial)
Grade IIIA–IIIB injuries require close inpatient monitoring, including consideration of intensive care unit admission, with a restricted oral intake period and in-hospital observation for at least one week to assess the patient's response to treatment and feeding.
