Treatment of Radically Resectable Thymic Carcinoid — UICC TNM Stage I–III

This protocol addresses the management of thymic carcinoid in patients where radical resection is considered achievable and disease is staged at UICC TNM stage I, II, or III.

Clinical Scenario

Thymic carcinoid confirmed as radically resectable at staging (UICC TNM stage I–III). Upfront surgery is appropriate when complete tumour removal is deemed feasible.

Approach Overview

Thymic carcinoid - UICC TNM stage I-III
Upfront surgery can be offered for all ThCs deemed radically resectable [IV, B].
Control of a functioning syndrome must be considered before any invasive therapeutic intervention [V, A].
Thymectomy by median sternotomy and/or thoracotomy and lymph node dissection for ThCs is recommended [IV, B].
