Brugada syndrome (BC65.1) is managed from first presentation with a core set of general protective measures that apply universally — regardless of additional clinical features. These measures address specific exposures capable of inducing characteristic ECG changes, and include guidance for a common physiological trigger.
This protocol applies to all patients diagnosed with Brugada syndrome and defines the general preventive measures that form the foundation of their ongoing management.
Management centres on targeted avoidance of certain drugs and substances that can induce ST-segment elevation in the right precordial leads, alongside a specific response protocol for one common physiological trigger.
The following is recommended in all patients with BrS: (a) Avoidance of drugs that may induce ST-segment elevation in right precordial leads (http://www.brugadadrugs.org). (b) Avoidance of cocaine, cannabis, and excessive alcohol intake. (c) Treatment of fever with antipyretic drugs.
