Treatment of Benign Parotid Gland Tumor with High Risk of Recurrence — Pleomorphic Adenoma
Clinical Scenario
This protocol applies to benign parotid gland tumor — specifically pleomorphic adenoma — in
presentations where the risk of recurrence is considered elevated. Clinically relevant
scenarios include cases with gross wound contamination and cases involving multinodular
recurrent disease.
Treatment Approach Partial — full protocol below
An adjuvant radiotherapy strategy is employed in selected high-risk situations to reduce the
likelihood of recurrence; the complete indications, patient selection criteria, and clinical
algorithm are available in the full structured protocol.

- Radiotherapy is effective in reducing the risk of recurrent benign tumours.
- It has application in high risk of recurrence pleomorphic adenoma cases, namely gross wound contamination and as an adjuvant therapy for treatment of multinodular recurrent disease.
