Papillary fibroelastoma (PFE) is a benign cardiac tumor whose clinical significance depends heavily on location and size. When a PFE is situated in a left-sided cardiac structure, or when its diameter exceeds 10 mm, the risk of thromboembolic events — including stroke — is meaningfully elevated.
Papillary fibroelastoma with left-sided cardiac location, or tumor diameter larger than 10 mm — features that place the patient at increased stroke risk and determine the management pathway.
In certain cases, antiplatelet therapy may be incorporated into the management strategy, though the supporting evidence for this option remains limited. The full protocol specifies the complete decision pathway and the applicable interventions.
