Treatment of Bartholin's Gland Cyst When Intervention Is Required
When a Bartholin's gland cyst or abscess warrants active procedural management, first-line care follows a structured approach focused on drainage of the cyst or abscess cavity.
This protocol applies to patients with a Bartholin's gland cyst (GA03.1) in whom intervention — rather than observation alone — is clinically indicated.
Approach (partial)
First-line intervention centres on a balloon-tipped catheter device introduced into the cyst or abscess cavity following drainage. The complete protocol specifies the procedural steps, follow-up, and additional considerations that may accompany this approach.
References
- In patients who require intervention first line therapy should be with the Word catheter, a balloon-tipped device inserted into the cyst/abscess cavity after incision and drainage.
- Consider antibiotics as per conservative management.
