Treatment of Balanoposthitis in Candidal Balanoposthitis

This protocol covers balanoposthitis caused by a candidal (fungal) aetiology. Candidal balanoposthitis represents a distinct subset of balanoposthitis cases, accounting for fewer than one in five presentations, and requires a targeted antifungal strategy rather than a general approach.

Management is based on topical antifungal therapy. The choice of agent is guided by individual clinical factors, including whether resistance or hypersensitivity to a particular antifungal class is a consideration. An oral antifungal is an option when symptom severity warrants it, and a combined anti-inflammatory preparation may be appropriate when significant local inflammation is present alongside the infection.

Full agent selection, sequencing, and any additional considerations are set out in the complete protocol.
