Treatment of Gonococcal Conjunctivitis in Adults and Adolescents Without Cephalosporin Allergy
Clinical Scenario
Gonococcal Conjunctivitis
This protocol covers gonococcal conjunctivitis in adults or adolescents who do not have a cephalosporin allergy. Gonococcal conjunctivitis is a hyperacute, vision-threatening infectious condition that requires immediate systemic therapy.
Treatment Approach
Management centres on prompt systemic antibiotic therapy. Saline lavage may additionally be considered to promote comfort and more rapid resolution of inflammation. The complete regimen — including alternatives and guidance for severe presentations — is available in the full protocol.
Treatment Goal
- Resolution of conjunctivitis, assessed daily until cleared
