Asherman's syndrome involves intrauterine adhesions (IUAs) that can range in severity. In the most severe presentations, extensive adhesion formation may make less invasive approaches impractical or impossible, requiring a distinct operative strategy.
This protocol addresses severe intrauterine adhesions in patients for whom other techniques are not practical or possible. It represents the traditional surgical approach reserved specifically for these refractory cases.
Management involves an open operative procedure directed at the adhesions themselves. This is a traditional technique that has largely been supplanted by other methods in routine practice, but remains the indicated approach in selected severe cases.
