This protocol addresses adult dermatomyositis presenting in the context of chronic interstitial lung disease associated with idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM). The co-occurrence of IIM-associated ILD represents a specific sub-population requiring a tailored treatment strategy.
Management of this condition involves immunosuppressive therapy, with corticosteroids forming the backbone of treatment. Whether additional agents are required alongside steroids depends on individual patient factors.
In the treatment of chronic IIM-associated interstitial lung disease:
Immunosuppression using steroids with or without a single DMARD (azathioprine, ciclosporin, tacrolimus, mycophenolate) is to be considered.
