Adenoid hypertrophy — enlargement of the pharyngeal tonsil — can cause significant clinical burden. When symptoms are severe or initial non-surgical management has not achieved adequate control, a surgical approach becomes the standard of care.
This protocol applies to patients with severe or persistent symptoms such as susceptibility to recurrent infection and fever, or persistent ear conditions, and those for whom conservative treatment has not been sufficient.
Surgical removal of the adenoid tissue — performed on an outpatient basis — is the primary intervention. Several operative techniques exist; the complete protocol specifies which method applies and under what conditions.
