Goblet cell adenocarcinoma (GCA) of the appendix — also commonly referred to as goblet cell carcinoid — is a rare tumor type accounting for approximately 14 to 19% of primary appendix cancers. Unlike classic appendiceal neuroendocrine tumors, GCA behaves more like adenocarcinoma in its immunohistochemical profile and biologic behavior, which directly shapes the treatment approach.
For localized, primary appendiceal GCA, management centers on a surgical procedure aimed at achieving adequate oncologic control and pathologic staging, with particular attention to regional lymph node evaluation. The complete protocol specifies the procedure of choice, staging thresholds, and all associated criteria — see the full regimen for details.
