Acute Tracheitis When First-Line Antibiotherapy Has Not Produced Improvement

This protocol applies to patients with acute tracheitis who have already received first-line intravenous antibiotherapy and supportive care but have not met the expected improvement criteria. It defines the clinical step that follows that failure.

The first-line protocol includes secretion suctioning, IV hydration, and IV antibiotherapy with ceftriaxone combined with cloxacillin, followed where possible by oral amoxicillin/clavulanic acid (co-amoxiclav).
